My partner and I were given an assignment and were told to create a story using 15 specific types of shots to portray the idea of the story.
We decided to tell a sad story about about a blue water bottle later caught her gray water bottle boyfriend cheating on her with a perfume bottle. We were able to portray the blue water bottles's feelings, and actions through specific shots. When given this assignment my partner and I immediately reached for items that were able to be used to show movement and emotion. We were able to make the blue water bottle, the main character, and show how its personality changes throughout the story. The blue water bottle begins as a very happy who seems to be happy with her water bottle boyfriend and then she later changes into a very sad and quiet water bottle. Shots like over-the-shoulder shots and close-ups really allowed us to emphasize and show the way the story tone and mood was changing.
I think my partner and I did very well was making sure that each specific shot contributed to telling the overall message of the story and it clearly depicted how the characters were feeling. We were able to show their feelings by using creativity and sticky notes as each of the character's faces would show their emotions throughout every shot. I feel like me and my partner could have improved on the way that the shots were taken, like the framing and location.
